INTO THE WOODS
“Into the Woods” is a modern twist
on the beloved Brothers Grimm
fairy tales, intertwining the plots of
a few choice stories and exploring
the consequences of the characters’
wishes and quests. This humourous
and heartfelt musical follows the
classic tales of Cinderella (Anna
Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood
(Lilla Crawford), Jack and the
Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and
Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy)—all
tied together by an original story
involving a baker and his wife (James
Corden & Emily Blunt), their wish to
begin a family and their interaction
with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has
put a curse on them.

The burst of light
On March 9, 1979, nine satellites stationed at
various points in the solar system simultaneously
recorded a bizarre event deep in space.
It was, in fact, the most powerful burst of energy
ever recorded. It was a burst of gamma radiation.
Even though it lasted for only one-tenth of a second, in that instant
it emitted as much energy as the sun does in 3,000 years.
An astronomer named Doyle Evans, in New Mexico, calculated the
energy that was emitted was 100 billion times greater than the energy
emission of our sun.
If such a burst of gamma radiation occurred in our own galaxy, it
would have incinerated our entire atmosphere. Everyone of us would
So what does all that mean? Probably, not very much, except to some of
us, such a thing seems impressive.
Yet there is another example of a burst of energy. It is energy referred to
in the Bible describing what takes place when a person suddenly becomes
This is how the event is described. “The exceeding greatness of His power
toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which
He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.”
Martin Luther said of this powerful display - “We have the tendency to
undervalue faith, as if believing was a simple exercise. It is nothing short
of the mighty power of God working in a person’s soul.” The same power
that raised Jesus from the dead, bursts into the soul when a person comes
to believe in Jesus Christ.
This is why the Bible compares the new birth of a Christian to a “new
creation”. Have you been born again?
