Jack Higgens, author of many successful novels, including ‘The Eagle Has Landed’, was asked what he would like to
have known when he was a boy. He answered, “That when you get to the top, there is nothing there.”
Mel Gibson said something similar. The Bible has a much more positive way of teaching this - ‘Whether at the bottom
or the top, you can be content.’
The Apostle Paul said this, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” Whether at the bottom or top, it
Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God.” To be poor in spirit is to feel our deep
need of forgiveness. This is true for every believer in Jesus and Jesus provides that need and much more - forgiveness,
righteousness and eternal hope.
Whether at the bottom or the top, we can be content. This applies to any circumstance. If we were to put ourselves in
one of those cattle cars that carried millions to their death in WWII, it would still be true of us - we have all we need
How can we be sure of this? Simply because, the Bible tells us so. “All things work together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” This surely is a reason to be supremely content.
What an amazing future every Christian has. Good things or bad things - all things, work together for good. To go
back to the cattle cars, the Apostle Paul said, “We are counted as sheep for the slaughter, yet in all these things we are
more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”
Have faith! Believe the Word of God.
