The Barossa’s Favourite Newspaper
At Jesus’ birth the world
learnt that his name would be
Immanuel – “God with us”.
See the tremendous
significance of this.
First, God didn’t send a
substitute! He came personally,
himself – the all-powerful One
who alone is righteous, holy and
good, presenting himself to us
in the flesh!
Second, this God who is
omniscient (knows all things)
therefore knows all about our human weakness and
sin and failure. Yet he chose to fully commit himself to
us so that he could meet our greatest need – become
Third, there’s more! “God with us” speaks of
companionship! Jesus told his disciples, “I have
called you friends” John 15.15. What a friendship!
unique in the universe!
Fourth, will his friendship last? We can confidently
put our trust in his great promise “I will never leave
you nor forsake you,” Hebrews 13.5.
This was the very message he conveyed in his
last earthly words to his disciples when he said,
“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Does our troubled world need a Saviour? It
sure does. So nothing is more practical than this
Christmas message about the all-powerful One who
came to meet that need.
GOOD NEWS IN BRIEF
“We can nowhere evade the presence of God.
The world is crowded with him.”
C. S. Lewis.
