Keyneton is celebrating the
announcement of the Village Fair on
the Keyneton Heritage Trail as the Mid
Murray Council’s 2016 Australia Day
Community Event of the Year.
The Keyneton Progress Association,
creators of the Keyneton Heritage Trail,
organised the family focused, community-
driven event as part of the 2015 Barossa
Vintage Festival to publicly launch the
newly established 9.2km trail that circuits
culturally historic town and district sites.
The Village Fair, held on the final day
of the Barossa Vintage Festival, opened
with Welcome to Country by Peramangk
custodian Isobel Campbell, followed by
guest speakers, blessing of the Keyneton
Heritage Trail by Pastor Erik Braunack-
Mayer, and launch honour undertaken by
Mayor Dave Burgess.
Association president, Ms Raelene
Dalton said the day was all about bringing
locals together and welcoming the public
to experience the trail, enjoy hospitality
and celebrate especially as it was a little
over one year after the Eden Valley Fire
ravaged the district.
“We are proud of the creation and
successful launch of the Keyneton Heritage
Trail along with the map and history trail
guides,” she said.
“Produced with the support of
the Mid Murray Council, through a
Community Events and Project Grant,
we were successful in bidding for, the
trail guides that are publicly available
along the trail at two heritage precincts:
North Rhine St. Peters Lutheran
Church and Keyneton Cemetery, and
Keyneton Soldiers’ Memorial Hall and
“The trail guides are also available
from the visitor information centres at
Mannum, Swan Reach and Tanunda and
we have listed the trail on WalkingSA.org.
au along with wonderful photographs.”
In acknowledging the volunteers
and the community spiritedness which
wholeheartedly contributed to the success
of the Village Fair, Ms Dalton remarked
that the Australia Day award is amazing
recognition for their small community,
making for an even prouder achievement.
The award will be presented to the
Keyneton Progress Association during
the Australia Day breakfast celebrations
to be held riverside at Mary Ann Reserve,
