Nuriootpa 7 sets 85 games lost to Tod St 9 sets
Team list: Emma Keys, Kimberly Seelander,
Bre Fay, Renee Davis, Dylan Sharman, Tim Grace,
Ken Hodges, Travis Schiller.
Both the Div 1 and 2’s played at the same venue
on Friday night.
This is what all clubs have wanted, more match-
es programmed with their own other divisions for
the social interaction and fills the home courts on
a regular basis.
A lot of the players are accepting the new club
tops and the juniors will be given theirs once the
junior season resumes on the February 3.
All Nuriootpa’s seasons matches against Tod
St have come down to the last set which decided
the winner with the men having the better record
than the ladies over their opponents; 2 of 4 sets
4/6. This gives the team lots of confidence for the
next encounter with the top of the ladder team.
Ladies doubles, Emma / Kim 7/9 a courageous
loss. Kim’s net play and Emma’s baseline con-
trolled hitting against similar style was good to
Bre / Renee 9/2, mammoth result. With the
combination of Bre’s presence at the net and Renee
steady from the back of the court.
Ladies singles: Emma’s 4/6 performance was
back to her near best, working out her game plan
needed to overcome her more consistent opponent,
with controlled hard and flat forehands that kept
her opponent from gaining control of the court.
Kim 3/6 was trying to reduce the pace of her
shots to counter the heavier ground strokes coming
her way, good strategy, stay with it!
Bre 2/6 knows that her game that she likes to
play will be the game to beat many opponents,
keep at it!
Renee 6/0 was too steady, rarely had trouble
with court control, and her placement is to be
Reverse doubles were 1 apiece, thus having
Tod St ladies take 6 sets to 2 sets for the evening.
Mens Doubles: Dylan / Tim 8/9, had enough
opportunities to take that set. Ken/Travis 9/5,
managed to stay on top after all the tight points.
Mens singles: Dylan 6/3 his power hitting was
back to his best. Tim 6/1, has the wood and cleaner
ball hitting than his opponent. Ken 3/6, just needs
a few more matches against that style of player
and will be better for it. Travis 2/6, looked good
with new racquet in hand but needed a game plan.
Reverse doubles were played with plenty of
purpose taking them 6/1 and 6/2.
Club Junior/Senior training recommences
January 31 same times. Hotshots will recommence
at same time from February 7.
Coming event: Pt Pirie challenge February 19
at Pt Pirie. Players from before December squads
will be contacted for first option. Any further posi-
tions to be filled; parents/players can contact Nick
Wuttke via the club delegate/coordinators.
Mt Torrens Red 14.89 d Woodside Red
2.34: At Woodside it was a battle of the Red
teams with home side Woodside Red taking
on visiting team Mt Torrens Red with the
visitors registering another solid victory.
Woodside Red were bolstered by the
addition of Daniel Schoell to the line-up
for the day with Schoell’s presence having
an instant impact teaming up with Finn
Sievwright in the top double and with
Schoell’s pace and Sievwright’s precision
they were too good for Mt Torrens Red’s Eric
Harrison, Robert Young scoring a 6-3 win.
As expected Mt Torrens Red fought back
comfortably taking the next three doubles
and then as it has done all season so far
dominated the singles matches dropping a
minimum of games.
Mt Torrens Red’s Cam Smart had the
closest match with a 6-2 win against Peter
Owen while Harrison, Dillon Cotton and
Emily Grafton scored 6-1 wins and Josh
Harris, Cain Sumner and Maddy Low all
added to their growing list of 6-0 wins for
Woodside’s Schoell proved his doubles
win was no fluke with a strong 6-2 win at
number 2 handing Young his first singles
loss of the season.
Mt Torrens Red wrapped up the reverse
doubles claiming all four but having to work
a bit harder in the top two with Harrison,
Cotton winning a tight contest 6-4 while
Young, Smart also had to battle hard for
their 6-4 result. Sumner, Low also had a good
hit-out against Tricia Owen, Jacqui Knipe
for a 6-3 win in the fourth double.
Kersbrook 18.83 d Springton 5.58:
Kersbrook travelled to Mt Torrens to play
bottom placed Mt Torrens Black and the
visiting team started well by winning all
doubles comprehensively, losing only one
game. The trend continued in the singles
with Kersbrook winning six of them.
The set of the day was between Josh Pym
for Mt Torrens and Lachy Carpenter. It was a
great match to watch from the sidelines with
both players testing each other’s strengths
but when it finished, to everyone’s surprise,
it was Pym who won 6-2 and Kirsty Mueller
won Mt Torrens other set defeating Renee
It finished with Kersbrook winning easily
14 sets to two.
Mt Pleasant 14.83 d Mt Torrens Black
2.23: Springton played hosts to Mt Pleasant
and the visitors started well by winning three
of the opening doubles. The top double was
very evenly battled between Mt Pleasant’s
young pairing Tyler Barker/Rebecca Taheny
and Rick Rodigheiro/Gary Gum and the tie-
breaker was also very close with Mt Pleasant
just getting there 7-5. Mother and daughter
Bronwyn and Megan Taheny had a tight
battle before recording a 7-5 win over Connor
and Steve Thomas.
Mt Pleasant won five of the singles. Barker
put in a good effort defeating Rodigheiro 6-2,
promising Mt Pleasant junior Matt Schulz
had a good 6-4 win over Mick Rawlings and
Gum had a good battle against R Taheny
before recording a tight 6-4 win. Mt Pleasant
won three of the doubles to run out winners
11 sets to five.

Harrogate 10-85 defeated Mt Pleasant
Springton 6-36 defeated Mt Pleasant
